Our Team

  • Owner - Nick Parker - Operations

Nick has 20 years experience in the leisure industry and studied sports management in Loughborough. If there is a job in the private swim school industry, it’s likely that Nick has done it at some point.

Nick has always been a beloved teacher and understands how important children’s early experiences are, especially in the water. Individualised and exciting swimming lessons create a life long love of the water. Nick wants a swim school that creates opportunities for every little one to discover a love for swimming.

  • Owner - Amanda Dunkley - Product & Marketing

Amanda didn’t learn to swim until she was 8 years old but still fondly remembers her first swim teacher - Jane - who helped create her forever passion. Amanda went on to swim for 3 local swimming clubs - Biggleswade, Cambridge and Hitchin.

Parts of her experience were amazing and others were alienating and unfriendly. Amanda doesn’t want any swimmer to feel stressed or pushed and thinks swimming should always be enjoyable.

From the award scheme to social media and the facilities, every part influences the feeling that customers have and are all equally important to Amanda.

  • Katrina Winwood - Swimming Instructor

Katrina has been a swim teacher for over 5 years. Previously Katrina worked locally as a midwife, this provided perfect experience for teaching little ones to swim.

Katrina’s favourite thing about teaching swimming is helping the nervous and shy children come out of their shells. “I love it when they finally arrive to a lesson with a great big smile on their face’.

  • Ethan Bester - Swimming Instructor

Ethan is our Butterfly expert. He learnt to swim in South Africa where he competed until he was 18.

He became a swimming teacher because he was always the one teaching his cousins and family friends to swim and thinks it’s great having a job that is fun and doesn’t feel like a chore. Ethan also teaches our club swimmers, passing on all of his competitive swimming knowledge.

  • Maisy Kitchener - Swimming Instructor

Maisy has always loved being in the water and comes from a family of swim teachers. After working with children and exploring different watersports, she was drawn to swim teaching as a way to help build confidence in the water.

She especially enjoys teaching Dolphin level, where children are building on core skills and preparing for the next stage. “It’s so rewarding adapting lessons to each child and seeing their trust grow,” she says.

  • Leanne Kokotka - Swimming Instructor

Leanne has been a swimming instructor for 3 years and brings fantastic energy and positivity to all of her lessons.

We asked Leanne why she become a swimming teacher and she said: 'I’ve always loved being in the water myself from such a young age, both my 2 girls started in the parent and child classes and from there I thought what a rewarding, fun and happy job. It’s great seeing the children progress and the smiles on their faces.'

  • Lucy Gallagher - Swimming Instructor

Lucy joined Happy Fins after a career in A&E, looking for a new challenge that combined her calm nature with her love of swimming. She remembers enjoying her own lessons as a child and wanted to help others feel the same.

  • Marianna Toth - Swimming Instructor

Marianna first discovered her love for swimming teaching while volunteering at a parent and baby class — she absolutely loved it and realised it was something she wanted to do every day. Since then, she’s taught a wide range of ages and abilities, with a particular passion for working with little ones and children with SEND.

She enjoys helping swimmers build confidence in the water and has a real soft spot for teaching Breaststroke.

  • Shauna Lee - Swimming Instructor

Shauna has spent much of her life in the water, competing as a national swimmer before moving into teaching. With such a strong background in the sport, becoming a swim teacher felt like a natural next step. She wanted to share her passion for swimming while also giving children a vital life-saving skill.

Her favourite part of the job is helping swimmers build their confidence and seeing how much they grow each week. Watching children go from feeling unsure to genuinely enjoying the water is something she never tires of. Shauna loves being part of that journey and making lessons both fun and rewarding.

  • Liz Burks - Swimming Instructor

Liz first discovered swim teaching while on maternity leave, after taking her middle child to baby swimming lessons. It sparked the idea of a new career, and when the chance came along the timing felt perfect. Everything seemed to align, and she hasn’t looked back since.

Her favourite part of teaching is seeing that special moment when a swimmer finally cracks a skill they’ve been working on. “The pride on their faces is such a joy to see,” she says. Liz loves helping children build confidence in the water and seeing how much enjoyment they get from their lessons.

  • Sophie Tupper - Swimming Instructor

For Sophie, becoming a swim teacher brought together two of her biggest passions — swimming and working with children. Teaching felt like the perfect role, allowing her to share her love for the water while helping children develop an essential life skill.

She believes that lessons should focus on enjoyment as much as skill, creating a calm, positive environment where children can thrive. Sophie especially enjoys teaching our youngest swimmers in Turtles, where those first steps in the water build the foundations for a lifetime of confidence.
